Thursday October 7 - Kauppakadun Approbatur

What does that mean? it means one of Jyvaskyla's biggest student get-togethers. Over 2000 students from all over Finland participated in Kauppakadun Appro on this beautiful clear night.

To enjoy an action-packed day in Jyvaskyla, it is important to be fueled up. Naturally, we played our cards correctly and had a nice hearty lunch in the fresh air to help with nutrient consumption :) Our second meal was surprisingly not in Maria's but a different location called Pizza and Kebab house. There are SO many pizzerias and kebab places in Jyvaskyla (and Helsinki too). One thing is for sure, they are much better than MacDonald's or other fast food places.

The line-up to redeem our tickets for certificates where our stamps would be put took no time at all it seemed  and before we knew it, we were in the launch off zone with a countdown going. We were to go around to different location like coffee shops, pubs and some snack places to eat/drink an item and receive a stamp. Almost everyone from my group chose the basic level to complete (kauppakadun approbatur) which is 8 stamps and we had 5 hours to do this. To my shock and surprise, we found ourselves sprinting towards the final destination with our stamp sheet to redeem it for our diploma. 5 hours wasn't an extraneous amount of time after all. But we received our "diplomas" which were patches that are meant to be sown on to those overalls that each department of the university sells to it's students. Mine is proudly hanging on my bedroom wall at the moment since I do not have those trendy coverall pants. (look below for a picture with a guy wearing those pants)
