Sunday October 17 - Getting acquainted with Bavaria

To celebrate (perhaps "celebrate" isn't the correct word) or mark, rather, the absence of so many of our friends who were gone on the Russia trip, Daniel decided to beat the blues by inviting some of us to his flat for a traditional Bavarian meal. I did not know what saumache owend was until Daniel patiently explained it to me.
Turns out that it is a traditional meal cooked in Bavaria. A pig's stomach is stuffed with potatoes, vegetables and of course the pig meat itself and cooked in the oven or boiled in a pot. Ultimately, it is served with mashed potatoes.  Of course, I really enjoyed this meal. Anything with potatoes already gains a thumbs-up status with my taste buds but this German dish was a real treat. Daniel is a whiz in the kitchen, Paivi and Marejke agreed with me on that one.

Suzy, Daniel's girlfriend, who was visiting Finland may have gotten a false impression of Daniel's friends here in Suomi as we spent most of the evening discussing our Spice Girls Halloween costume plans and practicing the dance for Wannabe.

Ah yes, what a quality evening.
